World Kidney Day

As the world marks World Kidney Day, I'm celebrating a survivor of kidney disease, Doris.
Doris is a survivor of kidney disease who only got a chance to tell her story to very few people. Doris was a young girl aged 14 years. She's had been suffering from the disease since the age of 12. My family came to know of her through church and my mum was touched by her story. Doris needed all the help she could get. My mum a kind hearted woman gathered her friends and took the initiative to help her.
The journey started at Kenyatta Hospital. She was in and out of hospital for her dialysis treatment. The dialysis treatment was a very tiring procedure for her. Whenever we went to visit her, she was a beautiful girl lying in bed so weak. It was always an emotional moment for the people who went to visit her. She always did her best to be lively but through her eyes you could see the pain.
The dialysis treatment went on for months. God came through for her, she got better. Doris went back to school and sat for her KCPE examination. She passed with flying colours, the celebrations were short lived. Doris got worse and it was time for another medical procedure. She was taken to India for a kidney transplant. Her mum was a perfect match.

Doris was a SURVIVOR of kidney disease. Her life got back to normal and she was ready to tackle the challenges of life and achieve her dream to provide for her family a better life. However her dream was short lived, a year later she fell sick. She was suffering from chest problem. She was hospitalised and in less than a week, Doris passed on. We were all in shock! My biggest regret is that I never got to say bye to her. She had become part of our family.
Doris fought the battle of kidney disease and came out a SURVIVOR but chest problem cost her life. I have never been able to understand How? & Why? She was a fighter and I would have loved to see her achieve her dreams. These are questions that only God can answer.

Rest in Peace Doris. We loved you but God loved you the most. We miss you, you're story is one to share. Rest in Peace!
