Happiness is Your Choice
Happiness is a feeling that we all thrive to achieve in life. It's thoughts of the good life, freedom from suffering, flourishing, well-being, joy, prosperity and pleasure.
It’s a 9 letter word, which has brought tears and pain to all of us, while trying to experience or achieve it. I've become a victim not once or twice. I relied on the people around me to achieve my happiness and every time I didn't, I turned back and blamed them.
Every time I stood at the balcony in the wee hours of the night wondering why did happiness slip through my fingers once again, I always swore on these words 'Happiness is A Choice' From that moment onwards I'll always live on those words like bread and water.
I got tired of standing at the balcony, crying myself to sleep and relying on people who at the end of the day would let me down. In that process trying to figure out what this 9 letter word - Happiness was all about. I came to realize that it's a very simple word that we have complicated completely.
‘Happiness is Not A Choice’ BUT ‘Happiness is Your Choice and Responsibility’
We've all fallen victims of placing our happiness on people's hands; it could be the one you love, your crush, friend or family. At the end of it all, it's not up to them to give you that happiness you deserve but it's up to you to go get it.
I'm not saying the person you love shouldn't give you the happiness you deserve, or the guy/chic you're head over heels for, or your friend or family member. What I'm saying it's not their obligation or responsibility to make you happy, it's your choice dear.
Let me picture for you a scenario whereby the chic is waiting for the guy to do something for her (a thing she can do for herself) in the realization that it will make her happy and at the end of it all, she would have experienced happiness. If he ends up not doing it, you know the outcome.
We've burnt bridges in the name of finding happiness but we've used the wrong way. I wish I knew earlier that happiness was my choice and no one else’s. I wouldn't have spent wee hours of the night at the balcony but it's never too late, for you and I.
We all need to realize that happiness is an individual’s choice and responsibility. The earlier we realize this, the much better we'll all live with each other.
“People are just as happy as they make up their minds to be.” ― Abraham Lincoln
